Round steel tubing is primarily suited for applications that require good structural and mechanical support. At Ryerson, round steel tubing comes in a wide assortment of outside diameters, wall thicknesses and lengths.
Among the most common grades of round steel tube are 1010 | 1020 | 1026 | 1008/1010 | 1010/1015 | 1010/1020 | 4130 | 4140.
Round steel tube is either seamless (which is made by piercing and rotating a heated red hot solid metal bar through the center) or welded. Round steel tube that is ERW (electric resistance welded) is typically produced from low carbon steel grades 1008 or 1010. This product offers good forming qualities and is not typically suited for highly engineered applications.
Most tube is rolled and welded. These products come in round, rectangular, and square shapes and are measured based on the outside diameter (OD) and the inside diameter (ID) or the wall.
