Ryerson offers a diverse range of aluminum square tubing in various thicknesses, ranging from 0.062" to 0.5" and widths from 0.75" to 8". These tubing products are available in both extruded and welded forms.
The most commonly used grades for aluminum square tubing are 6061 and 6063. These alloys are heat treatable, meaning their initial strength can be further enhanced by adding copper, magnesium, zinc, and silicon. When exposed to elevated temperatures, these alloying elements contribute to increased strengthening.
Temper | Impact |
F (as fabricated) | As rolled, no annealing, mechanical properties consistent. |
---|---|
O (annealed) | The process of heating and cooling to induce softening. |
H (strain hardened) | An increase in hardness and strength caused by plastic deformation at temps lower than the recrystallizing range/cold worked. |
T (thermally treated) | Heat treated |
W (solution heat treated) | Heating metal to high temp & maintaining it long enough for one or more constituents to enter the solid solution. Solution is then cooled rapidly to retain the constituents within. |
