Aluminum round bar inventories are comprised of both cold finished and extruded bars. The choice for your application should be made based on machining, strength, and cost considerations involved.
Grade 2011 is screw machine stock and is the best machining aluminum bar stock. Fine chips mean faster feeds and longer tool life. This grade machines to an excellent finish, has good strength, and average formability.
Grade 2024 screw machine stock is slightly more difficult to machine than 2021 but has enough strength for such applications as air-craft fittings, bolts, and fastener devices.
Grade 6061 is one of the most versatile screw machine alloys with good strength, workability, corrosion resistance, ease of joining. While less machinable than the 2000 series of aluminum bar, 6061 cold finished rounds and hexes conform to AMS QQ-A-225/8 and ASTM B211.
Grade 6063 is extruded for ornamental and architectural applications. Highly corrosion resistant with good formability, 6063 is one of the most joinable alloys. Finish is pleasing and is the most suitable for anodizing.
Grade 7075 offers the greatest strength available in aluminum bar. It is widely used in aircraft applications where light weight plus strength are required.
